Long story short, I got an 8800GT but I have a pretty annoying board that's extremely allergic to it. Funding is limited for a month, but even then I can only stretch to buying a nice heatsink and some better ram, and these alternatives are about £70 cheaper than buying each component seperately (I should only be spending £100 anyway to get this card to work but what the hell), plus when I replace the ram, that ram can go to another home.

So the AMD or Intel?

EDIT: You can get same performance cheaper if you spend less on the mobo, can get away with about £30 really, but it wouldn't be good for the future..

I'm really looking for either a cheap 939, (My processor is an 3800+ Athlon 64, 939 socket) board that supports an 8800GT, quite a few it seems actually don't.

Or an upgrade with a new motherboard, a dual core processor and 800 ddr2 ram.

I've never bought from ebuyer before, are they good?
I like that setup but I've never owned an Intel processor before, basically is it good?

This chip is an excellent overclocker and a total bargin + should be easily replaceable, up until nehalem at least!

And also i have that Mobo and its an awesome overclocker,

It has this auto overclock setting where u can select 5,10,15 or 20% increase and it does all the hard work for you

I used to overclock my gfx card but I haven't done it for a while now, are games generally sensitive to processor overclocking?

The memory and processor look a good buy, but I'll have to go to the £30 range of motherboards for now, any bargain mobos that stand out in particular? I heard intel boards arn't really aimed towards nvidia cards?

The 8800GT 512 is very hot to start with, not much if any overclocking there. I think most games are not really processor dependant but there are always exceptions to this. The core 2 based pentium dual core is low on l2 cache and has a low starting clock rate so would need overclocking to compensate. Again it all depends on the game. I can't see why any board couldn't be used to overclock this chip as it's not exactly cutting edge.

I don't know anything about the 7050 chipset.

Ok the mobo you selected is good but not good enough.

For a start it has onboard gfx card, which you do not need, secondly it only supports upto PC2-5300 (667Mhz), and PC-6400 (800mhz) is what we really need.

Ok for £2 more I've found one that supports 800mhz RAM , and has a very slightly better onboard graphics card not that it matters

Oh and the 939 socket is basically a write off, sell it on ebay.

I went with the intel chip and the ram was a nice steal too, as for the mobo I already bought the one I looked at before the £2 dearer one was found, every board I buy seems to be Asus lol. As for not supporting 800mhz ram, I'm not sure where you got that idea from, it even lists the OCZ ram as being supported in the manual
Besides my plan is to save up for a much better mobo when I have the money, then buy another 2 gigs of that OCZ ram. I was just really unsure about intel chips, I've never touched them before.

But anyway thanks for the help, my 8800GT is finally working and CoD4 looks amazing.

I just need to look into overclocking this e2200, I think it's safe to, my old heatsink from my previous 939 board was compatible so I cleaned it off and used it for this board. It usually stays at about 23-5 degrees c, the most I've seen it at is 35 degrees c, but that was once and on CoD4 it will sit around the 30-2 degrees c mark.

Oh and I'll just fit my old 939 board into my old case, get another computer out of it, put it in the living room as a media pc or something. Give some spare ram to my friend too, she needs it.
