dont go for the cheap option - its already low end and is a shop gap for what 6 to 12 months 18 max
seen as you have the money spend about £350 replacing ram / mobo / cpu / gfx and sell the card to markey

never buy a top end system - its only a few % faster than the 400 quid option in upgrades really

Was that post directed at me or Apoc?

thanks guys :D

The newest stuff is always overpriced and tends to be not worth it. What i meant by high end was as good as i can get without going into that region of ridiculous pricing, the area which i would call "very" high end.
(like 400 quid graphics cards which are less than twice as good as a 200 quid one   doesn't justify the cost)

will kill some time at work deciding what i'll buy :P :D

Well, what I priced up for you, isn't top end, but it should run just about anything you throw at it. Unless you plan on Vista for when the DX10 games start rolling in, doubt that'll be soon though.

Quite personally, I think you'd find that computer (and price) more than reasonable.

seeing as i think both are direct 10 it would be worth gettin the 8800 as this would probably last you longer
8600 Vs. 8800
Try that site :D

EDIT: that site is about SLI 8600's or 2 of them connected together Vs 1 8800, To be honest the fact that they are comparing 2vs1 gives you a clue to which is the better card to have

On the 2 boards the difference is the Chipset, the P5B uses the 965 chipset, the other uses P35 but I dunno whats better.

Well, the 8600 is the undercut and slightly lower end of the 8 Series. But I daresay a single 8800GTS would probably do better if your willing to spend the extra. I didn't read that forum, but if their theory is true, don't bother with SLI, just get an 8800GTS/GTX.

Replied to your pm Apoc, You are basically where I was about 3 weeks ago. The system I went for in the end was as follows:

Asus P5K Deluxe Wifi motherboard
Intel Core2 Duo E6600
nVidia 8800 GTS 640
4 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 Ram
X-Fi Extreme Music Soundcard
<< Awesome for £49.00 btw

Best upgrade I have done for quite some time. This thing is bloody fast. I have the grfx max'd out CSS and still getting between 150 & 270 fps depending on the map. Halflife 2 is always above 250fps as well. Not tried anything else as yet but confident it will run pretty much anything as of right now and run it well.
The above package cost me £726.50 delivered from OcUK to give you an idea.

Good man! You'll be very happy with that system. :)

Just be sure to get a decent CPU Heatsing & Fan. (Anything but that stock thing they call a CPU Cooler.) > . >
