This may sound stupid but it would be good if it could work.
I have a draytek 2800 adsl 2+ router and it has a USB printer port.
Is it possible for me to connect my maxtor USB external hard drive and use it as a networked drive?

no - it would need some underlying cpu/os to present its self to the network
