Hey guys, I have AVG 7.5 free edition, and the only options it has for scheduleing anti-virus checks is daily or not at all. I don;t want to run it every day cause its annoying and slows my PC down, but if i switch it off, i always forget to run it so it only gets done every few weeks or so when i remember.

So anyhoo have been trying to use windows XP scheduler to get it to run every weekend, but there are only .exe's to actually open the control center or test ceter, or start an update. So does anyone know if there's a windows command that starts a virus check, or is there something i can tag onto the end of the test center .exe that will make the stupid thing run one?

If you;ve got this far thanks for reading this essay  any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

TP

Why bother? Just do a system scan when youve installed it, then scan stuff when youve downloaded it (right click > scan with AVG). Also AVG sits in memory so if you are daft enough to run a virused exe it will catch it anyways.

:)

I just have a folder on my desktop titled 'run once a week', with shortcuts to avg, adaware etc in it. Works fine for me.

You can use the AVGSCAN.EXE file for these purposes. It has to be run with parameters, so if you want to scan your C:\ drive, you have to run this command-line scan in the following format: AVGSCAN.EXE C: /parameters.

If you want to scan a specific file/directory, you have to replace the C: path by specific path. The list of possible parameter you can get by the AVGSCAN.EXE /? command.

There you go, just set the additonal parameters when you set up your windows schedule

Just browse in the command promt to your AVG folder and type in the last command to get the parameters

just schedule it to run at a time of your chosing...

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Scheduled Tasks -> Add Scheduled Task

...then browse to your small batch file with the scan command in it.

Heh I often do as well :D, and rely on the fact that AVG is running in the backround.
Only tend to really worry if downloading dodgy files from sites of the net, but of course I dont do that often, cough.
