Ok, I'm thinking of getting a new mouse when I get my monitor.

From what I hear (probs not very accurate) Laser technology isn't that great at the moment compared to Optical. What is your opinions on this matter?

I'm debating whether to buy the Logitech G5 or the Logictech MX-518

What are your opinions? The MX-518 has an extra button etc, but I'm .not sure if the G5 is better overall. They both have the same shape, just different tracking technology.

The "adjustable weight" sounds a bit excessive hehe. Well, it depends if you want to pay the extra money... I have the MX518 and I haven't even looked at other mice since getting it. I certainly can't notice any problems with tracking and the side buttons are nice to have. I use them as back and forward buttons on Firefox and i use them for various functions in game... 1600dpi seems more than enough too, I run mine at 950 dpi (with 8.5 in CS:S... 1600 just makes it uncomfortable in windows and your hand becomes tense as it does microscopic movements (well, about 1 inch for about 22 inches of screen or something like that). I have a 17'' wide screen. Got 25 inches of screen or something then maybe it's worth putting dpi higher hehe.

Thinking about it now, I'll go and change the presets (with the + and - buttons) more and have it so I can use 1600 in game and lower my in game sensitivity and then use the - button when going into windows to bring it down to 950 again... And maybe 400 for any other retard who uses my computer (they ALWAYS say it's really fast... lol). Now that I think about it... The control panel does everything I need too. You can change the function of all the buttons ( except left/right lol ).

I dunno, maybe the £10 extra or so is worth it as it is used so much, but I haven't used the G5 ever, I only saw it in the shop and chose the MX518. I wouldn't bother getting the G5 just for the 2000dpi. Laser vs Optical...? Well I did try one other mouse before this one and I had to take it back... It was a laser mouse and it didn't work AT ALL lol. Wasn't a well known brand like Logitech if I remember correctly but tbh, its probably just a gimmick that really isn't necessary. Get em both... and take one back and say you didn't like it!

I do like the look of the Razer Copperhead hehe. It's glowing-ness would go well with my Dell XPS M1710 which also lights up... Although I turn em off as they get annoying lol.

I should publish this book I just wrote... lol.

two extra buttons are a real must tbh, forward and backward when browsing or using explorer...

handy for gaming too :)

i have the G7, i think its a bloody excellent mouse one of my best buys for my pc! The extra butten on the side would be good, but if youve never had two side buttens you wont miss it!

I have had various mice in my time, lots of ms explorers to start with, then I got the logitech mx1000, a great mouse, wireless, but heavy, took some time getting used to the lag compensation...

Then I got the razer diamondback, almost gave me rsi it was that uncomfortable, only for use for those with really long shaped hands (mine a chubby by comparison).

Now i'm on the G5 which is gondammed great! :D easilly the best most responsive mous I've ever had, lazer, youd only notice it if youve used one before, once youve had one you would never go back. dpi, loving adjustable on the fly settings, and why do i need a forward button on my browser? :D:D

Personal preference but them two mice are the best from the Logitech range. I've got a Mx518 and haven't looked back at another mouse since. The G5 has the extra features which is tempting but its up to you, are you willing to pay more for a G5?
