"Expect AMD to pull the wraps off its DirectX 10 product line up in mid-May" Hmm wonder if this should be part of a new system owned by me |

Definately making me wait before upgrading, money shouldn't be any more than the 8800's else they are pushing themselves out of the market. As for AMD processors being cheap right now, isn't that because they are being trounced performance wise by Intel? So just trying to get the things out there whilst they can before the replacements arrive on the market? |

Did anyone notice the tests were against an 8800 GTS 640MB and not nVidia's 8800GTX 768MB? Anyone got any idea what the marginal difference would have been? o.o |

yes the XT beats the GTS, but the XTX gets owned by GTX (as the XTX only has 5mhz extra core and 200mhz extra mem over the XT) and the 8800ultra is coming soon, so if you want the FASTEST card you can buy, then nvidia wins still, if you want the best bang for buck, the 2900XT is a very competitive card. admitly the XTX will not be out till june maybe even july as AMD are try to make it competitive with the GTX and Ultra before they release it, so by then they may have a world beating card (they hope to shrink the XTX to 65nm abd put the clocks through the roof). and apparently they are still having trouble with the GDDR4 that the XTX uses. lots of work before AMD take the true top end crown. shrek edit, the XT comes approx mid way between the GTS and GTX on performance, and is prices @ GTS (or slightly less). |

Perhaps I spoke to soon.... DailyTech: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX, Doomed from the Start "AMD's flagship ATI Radeon HD 2900 XTX fails to usurp the GeForce 8800 GTX's performance crown. Today's tests used retail drivers ATI released to its board partners. The less than stellar performance benchmarks are no surprise to board partners and AMD insiders. Two independent ATI board builders told DailyTech that Radeon HD 2900 XTX will not be a part of their initial portfolios. Given the additional memory cost and bulky card footprint, it seems unlikely the XTX will ever see the light of day. " |

like i said, 5mhz core and 200 mhz from XT to XTX whereas the GTS to GTX is 32 processors, 75mhz core and 200mhz core. if the XT is similar to the GTS then the XTX was never gonna be enough to keep up with the GTX, the spec just isnt there. maybe if they could get the core up around 1Ghz and the GDDR4 to 1.5Ghz then it could be competative, but that will need 65nm and mental GDDR4. but could be done. we will see dark times for amd/ati as debt mounts and the hardware is lacking (barcelona will be a massive test) shrek |

I'm happy with my GTS anyways. Runs anything I throw at it smoothly. |
